HubPet is an independent research-based review site focused on pet products, smart pet devices, and health-related accessories for dogs and cats.
We do not run our own laboratory tests. We verify product claims against manufacturer specifications, publicly available test data, safety standards, real owner feedback patterns, and documented long-term use. Important numbers and claims are linked to named sources where possible.
How we rate products
Each product is scored across five criteria. The final rating is the simple average of these five scores.
- Safety & Materials — Build quality, material safety, certifications, and any documented safety concerns.
- Functionality & Effectiveness — How well the product performs its intended job based on specifications and consistent user feedback.
- Ease of Use — Setup, daily operation, cleaning, and overall convenience for pet owners.
- Durability & Value — Expected lifespan, real cost of ownership, and how the product compares to alternatives in the same category.
- Pet Comfort & Acceptance — Evidence that pets tolerate or enjoy using the product, based on design and owner reports.
The final score is the arithmetic mean of the five criteria. We publish individual scores so readers can see the strengths and weaknesses of each product.
How we choose our recommendations
Our recommended lists are not simply the highest-scored products. We also consider:
- Suitability for different pets (size, age, temperament)
- Long-term reliability
- Safety track record
- Balance between performance and price
A product can score well in one specific area and still not appear in a general Top list. When this happens, we explain why in the review.
